CE Reflections :/

  • I believe that it has increased my awareness in serving the community in Singapore and have helped develop my
     interpersonal relationship skills,

  • The best thing that happened to me was probably that I was able to recycle quite a fair bit of plastic bottles. Despite this being a small achievement, I felt a small sense of accomplishment for being able to improve the
    cleanliness of the canteen.

  • I really hope that I would be able to be involved in the community. Serving the community has been my passion, and I have always looked forward to improving the welfare of my friends, families and neighbours, no matter how big or small the contribution will be.

How has the service-learning experience changed my thinking, attitudes, and actions towards others, myself and the community?

Our service learning project was to collect empty plastic bottles for recycling, proposed by Mr Khoo which sounded pretty boring at the start. As we embarked on the project, my group shared jokes; teased each other here and there and we had tremendous fun alongside helping the environment. This service learning has altered my thinking that helping the environment is mundane, while it can be actually quite fun. It has also made me more inclined towards efforts to conserve the environment on my part.

What stands out as the best or worst thing that happened to you in your service learning experience? What did you learn from these experiences?

The worst things first to keep the best for last Smile. Firstly, a couple of classes did the same service learning project as us and they tried to steal our plastic bottles! Also, there was miscommunication amongst the class over whose turn it was, especially on Monday.  Moreover, many oblivious and defiant students threw the bottles into the thrash instead of passing it on to us. That was the most annoying part.

The best thing was the bonding created between the group, imposing upon ourselves the importance of recycling while enjoying it too!

Do you see yourself staying involved in the community during your college and adult years? Why or why not?

Definately. However much the workload, i will manage my time well to be involved in such efforts to save mother Earth.

Our class CE project was to collect empty plastic bottles to have them recycled. It was a tough challenge at first to actually go around the school to collect bottles from students after they finish drinking. Another thing that we have realised during this project was that every little move that we do can bring effect to our surroundings. It can be in a good way when we step up in recycling, but can mean something bad when it comes to the situation where you are the one anyhow throwing them away. This service learning has certainly heightened my experience in the field of doing something for the community. I have learnt that some people still lack the knowledge that recycling is important to protect the environment.

How has the service-learning experience changed my thinking, attitudes, and actions towards others, myself and the community?

My service learning experience metamorphosed and reformed my thinking in the way that i learnt to care more about the environment and made me realize the importance of reducing, recycling and reusing, It also diverged my previous don't-care attitude, making me want to learn more of our ever-changing environment. It made me more selfless, changing my tendency of throwing rubbish on the floor without a second thought and turning it to picking up the scatterd trash on the floor and disposed of them properly creating a healthier and cleaner place for the public.

What stands out as the best or worst thing that happened to you in your service learning experience? What did you learn from these experiences?

The best things were that it enlightened me on the situation of our environment and tightened the bonds between my group members and I. The worst thing were that we had to sacrifice a partial of our precious recess time and that some people wont cooperate with us by throwing the bottles in the trash bags we were using but instead ignorantly throwing them in the bins. I learnt how to counter these sorts of people by explaining to them the detrimental and adverse side effects of their care-less attitude which may be a direct or indirect affect on them.

Do you see yourself staying involved in the community during your college and adult years? Why or why not?

Yes. Cause our knowledge and skills were born from the community and doing community service is just a little bit of gratitude we can show to the community by helping the helpless and caring for the environment which in turn make our home, singapore, a much more awesome place to live in,.
