Our class service learning is a simple project-- returning used plastic bottles into the recycling bins instead of throwing them into the normal dustbins. This will greatly help the recycling process [as plastic can be recycled]. It also saves the earth! I never knew that plastic could not decompose after long periods of time but also take up lots of space- which Singapore lacks. Burning plastics also damages the environment as harmful chemicals are emitted. Hence, this project has taught me that I need to play a role in conserving the earth by helping to recycle whatever materials i can.
Worst Thing: Most people, in spite of us telling them to return their empty plastic bottles, refuse to do so.
Best Thing: I forged better ties with my classmates as we knew that we were working together to save the earth and that we could support each other [collect bottles, reycle them, etc]
I have learnt that some people still lack the knowledge that recycling is important to protect the environment. More educational experiences need to be given to this group so that they too, can contribute to this recycling process
Yes. College and adulthood gives me many opportunities to contribute to the community. In JC, there will be projects like going on trips to less developed countries and help them build houses/ schools, etc. Even at work, we can still make use of the chances [by the companies, grassroots level and religious organizations] to make contributions to the less priviledged people in our society
