FROM MR GBAKOU SAYIDOU.

Dear Friend,

I am Mr.Gbakou Sayidou, Home Address: 15 kolughu naaba avenue, Age: 45years old. Marital status: married with 3 children. Occupation: banker. Working at the auditing and accounting department, BANK OF AFRICA (B .O. A) Ouagadougou Burkina-Faso West Africa, with due respects and regard I have decided to contact you on a business transaction that will be very beneficial to both of us at the end of the transaction.

I know that a transaction of this magnitude will make any one apprehensive and worried, but I am assuring you that all will be well at the end of the day.

I came to know you in my Private Search for a Reliable and Reputable Person to handle this Confidential Transaction, which involves the transfer of huge sum of Money to a Foreign Account requiring Maximum Confidence.

During an annual auditing of Account's in this bank, my department came across a very huge sum of money belonging to a deceased person who died in a tragic plane crash on the Lenana Peak, Mount Kenya, Saturday, the 19th day of July, 2003 together with his wife Jean, three of their children and their spouses, and four grandchildren, since then his fund has been dormant in his account with this Bank without any claim of the fund in our custody either from his family or relation before discovery to this development.

The said amount was U.S $8.2M (Eight million, two hundred thousand United States dollars). In fact I could have done this transaction alone but because of my position in the country as a civil servant (A Banker), we are not allowed to operate a foreign account and would eventually raise an eye brow on my side during the time of transfer because I work in this bank.

This is the actual reason why it will require a second party or fellow who will forward claims as the next of kin with affidavits of trust of oath to the Bank and also present a foreign account where you will need the money to be transferred into on your request as it may be after due verification and clarification by the correspondent branch of the bank where the whole money will be remitted from, to your own designation bank account.

I will not fail to inform you that this transaction is 100% risk free. On smooth conclusion of this transaction, you will be entitled to 45% of the total sum as gratification, while 55% will be for me, also you have to understand that you and i will put hands together to make any expenses that will come up in this transaction and any expenses that you and I make will be deducted from the fund immediately the bank transfer the fund into your account before sharing.

Please, you have been advice to keep "top secret" as I am still in service and intend to retire from service after I have concluded this transaction with you.

I will be monitoring the whole situation here in this bank until you confirm the money in your account and ask me to come down to your country for subsequent sharing of the fund according to percentages previously indicated and further investment, either in your country or any country you advice me to invest in. All other necessary, vital information will be sent to you when I hear from you.

I look forward to receive your reply urgently. Show your readiness to assist me in this transaction by replying this proposal as early as possible and I want you to assure me of your capability of handling this transfer with trust by giving me the following information's about yourself:

1) Your age:...............................
2) Your occupation:.......................
3) Are you married?:...............................
4) Your mobile phone number.:...............................
5) Your location and full address.
6) Scan and send a copy of your identity card to me. :...............................
7) Your Fax Number: :...............................
8) Sex:.:...............................

I will tell you how you can apply to the bank as soon as i receive your response towards this mail. Extend my greetings to your family and we should please try and have trust on each other in this transaction so that we shall achieve our aim together.

Do not take this very transaction as a joke; I need your full co-operation to make this work fine. Because the management is ready to approve this payment to any foreigner who has correct information of this account, which I will give to you. Now I have been convinced that you are capable and will meet up with this transaction of B.O.A Bank of Africa .

I need your strong assurance that you will never let me down in this transaction, so you reply and ask me how you can apply for the text of application form of claim of the deceased fund from the bank. It is the foreign remittance departments that are responsible for transference of fund into your account over there.
KINDLY GET BACK TO ME WITH MY PRIVATE ADDRESS: gbakou_sayidou@voila.fr

Thanks yours,
Mr. Gbakou Sayidou.

TSUNAMI DISASTER IN INDONESIA.

My dear,

Forgive my indignation if this message comes to you as a surprise and may offend your personality for contacting you without your prior consent and writing through this channel. I got your contact from the professional data base found in the internet Yahoo tourist search. When I was searching for a foreign reliable partner. I assured of your capability and reliability to champion this business opportunity. After series of prayers/fasting. I was divinely directed to contact you among other names found in the data base Yahoo tourist search. I believe that God has a way of helping who is in need.

I am (MR. DENNIS DEME), the Head of file Department in African development bank (ADB).In my department we discovered an abandoned sum of $15 MILLION USA DOLLARS, (FIFTEEN MILLION USA DOLLARS). In an account that belongs to one of our foreign customer who died along with all his family in the Asia Earth Quake Disaster (TSUNAMI DISASTER IN INDONESIA / INDIA)http://www.cnn.com/ SPECIALS/2004/tsunami. Disaster/ .All of his Family lost there lives in the Disaster. Since then I have made several inquiries to his Country embassy to locate any of his client's extended Relatives, this has proved unsuccessful. After these several unsuccessful attempts, unfortunately we learnt that all his supposed next of kin or relation died along side with him at the TSUNAMI DISASTER IN INDONESIA / INDIA leaving nobody behind for the claim. It is therefore upon this discovery that I and one official in my department now decided to make this business proposal to you and release the money to you as the next of kin or relation to the deceased for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it and we don't want this money to go into the bank treasury as unclaimed bill.

The Banking law and guideline here stipulates that if such money remained unclaimed after five (5) years, the money will be transferred into the Bank treasury as unclaimed fund. The request of foreigner as next of kin in this business is occasioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner, and a Burkinabe cannot stand as next of kin to a foreigner. We agree that 40% of this money will be for you as foreign partner, in respect to the provision of a foreign account, and 60% would be for me and my woman colleague. That means ($6 MILLION  USA  DOLLARS),SIX MILLION  USA  DOLLARS for you, and ($9 MILLION  USA  DOLLARS), NINE MILLION USA  DOLLARS for me and my partner. There after I will visit your country for disbursement according to the percentages indicated.

All I require is your honest cooperation to enable us seeing this deal through. I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law. Please consider my official positions, reputation and integrity, especially, the opportunities in the business itself, it is very necessary that all due care be taken so that we do not miss the opportunity due to carelessness.

You are therefore expected and advised to display high degree of maturity, responsibility and understanding in handling this information. I will give you all the details in my next mail when you have indicated your interest and commitment to work with me. Always remember that this is the highest confidence and trust any person can repose on the other, especially when it is considered that we did not know ourselves. I hope you will honor me too.

I will come over to join you in your Country for disbursement when the funds hit your account. More so for an effective and easy communication I will advice that you furnish me with your telephone and fax number. Upon receipt of your reply, I will send to you by fax or email the text of the application I will not fail to bring to your notice that this transaction is hitch free and that you should not entertain any atom of fear as all required arrangements have been made for the transfer.

You should fill your information and send it back to me.

Your's faithfully,

Mr. DENNIS DEME.

CE Reflections :/

  • I believe that it has increased my awareness in serving the community in Singapore and have helped develop my
     interpersonal relationship skills,

  • The best thing that happened to me was probably that I was able to recycle quite a fair bit of plastic bottles. Despite this being a small achievement, I felt a small sense of accomplishment for being able to improve the
    cleanliness of the canteen.

  • I really hope that I would be able to be involved in the community. Serving the community has been my passion, and I have always looked forward to improving the welfare of my friends, families and neighbours, no matter how big or small the contribution will be.

How has the service-learning experience changed my thinking, attitudes, and actions towards others, myself and the community?

Our service learning project was to collect empty plastic bottles for recycling, proposed by Mr Khoo which sounded pretty boring at the start. As we embarked on the project, my group shared jokes; teased each other here and there and we had tremendous fun alongside helping the environment. This service learning has altered my thinking that helping the environment is mundane, while it can be actually quite fun. It has also made me more inclined towards efforts to conserve the environment on my part.

What stands out as the best or worst thing that happened to you in your service learning experience? What did you learn from these experiences?

The worst things first to keep the best for last Smile. Firstly, a couple of classes did the same service learning project as us and they tried to steal our plastic bottles! Also, there was miscommunication amongst the class over whose turn it was, especially on Monday.  Moreover, many oblivious and defiant students threw the bottles into the thrash instead of passing it on to us. That was the most annoying part.

The best thing was the bonding created between the group, imposing upon ourselves the importance of recycling while enjoying it too!

Do you see yourself staying involved in the community during your college and adult years? Why or why not?

Definately. However much the workload, i will manage my time well to be involved in such efforts to save mother Earth.

Our class CE project was to collect empty plastic bottles to have them recycled. It was a tough challenge at first to actually go around the school to collect bottles from students after they finish drinking. Another thing that we have realised during this project was that every little move that we do can bring effect to our surroundings. It can be in a good way when we step up in recycling, but can mean something bad when it comes to the situation where you are the one anyhow throwing them away. This service learning has certainly heightened my experience in the field of doing something for the community. I have learnt that some people still lack the knowledge that recycling is important to protect the environment.

How has the service-learning experience changed my thinking, attitudes, and actions towards others, myself and the community?

My service learning experience metamorphosed and reformed my thinking in the way that i learnt to care more about the environment and made me realize the importance of reducing, recycling and reusing, It also diverged my previous don't-care attitude, making me want to learn more of our ever-changing environment. It made me more selfless, changing my tendency of throwing rubbish on the floor without a second thought and turning it to picking up the scatterd trash on the floor and disposed of them properly creating a healthier and cleaner place for the public.

What stands out as the best or worst thing that happened to you in your service learning experience? What did you learn from these experiences?

The best things were that it enlightened me on the situation of our environment and tightened the bonds between my group members and I. The worst thing were that we had to sacrifice a partial of our precious recess time and that some people wont cooperate with us by throwing the bottles in the trash bags we were using but instead ignorantly throwing them in the bins. I learnt how to counter these sorts of people by explaining to them the detrimental and adverse side effects of their care-less attitude which may be a direct or indirect affect on them.

Do you see yourself staying involved in the community during your college and adult years? Why or why not?

Yes. Cause our knowledge and skills were born from the community and doing community service is just a little bit of gratitude we can show to the community by helping the helpless and caring for the environment which in turn make our home, singapore, a much more awesome place to live in,.

How has the service-learning experience changed my thinking, attitude and actions towards others, myself and the community?

The service-learning experience has made me understand the need and importance of recycling. I have realized that recycling is important to help the community stay eco-friendly. My attitude towards community projects has changed and I feel that from now on i would be more active in them. Also from now on I will try my best to convince my family members to use less electricity and try to influence others around me to contribute to the community in whatever small way they can.

What stands out as the best or worst thing that happened to you in your service learning experience? What did you learn from these experiences?

The best part of this service-learning experience was interacting with my group members and collecting the bottles together. Together we learned the importance of recycling and had fun in the process. The only downside to our experience was the sight of students being defiant of our heeding and still throwing their bottles in the trash cans instead of recycling them.

Do you see yourself staying involved in the community during your college and adult years? Why or why not?

Yes, I do see myself helping the community and actively participating in such activities because if I have learned one thing from this service-learning experience is that we all have a part to play and I am not going to miss out on mine.

Ruben's CE Project

  • How has the service-learning experience changed my thinking, attitudes, and actions towards others, myself and the community?
  •
The experience has changed my thinking: Picking up litter is important, it keeps the environment clean for a better studying environment, this way I can concentrate in class!
attitude: By keeping a habit of picking up litters whenever I see them.
actions: By reminding the importance of picking up litter so that we can concentrate in class
myself: Repeat to remember, remember to repeat, create a new habit, which means better character!
community: It will influence passer-bys to do the same thing

  • What stands out as the best or worst thing that happened to you in your service learning experience? What did you learn from these experiences?
  •
The best thing about service learning that happened is when I am experiencing the service learning experience! The worse thing about the service learning is to pick up litter on the floor and grabbing wet and dirty bottles or accidently spill the remaining contents in the bottle that may contain enzymes

  • Do you see yourself staying involved in the community during your college and adult years? Why or why not?
  •
I do, because service learning is important in life as it builds up good character, which can attract and grab attention from women during the colledge and adult year, and that way, I will continue to do service learning!

    • How has the service-learning experience changed my thinking, attitudes, and actions towards others, myself and the community?
I have learnt to be more responsible in my actions towards the environment and to the society. I have also learnt to respect and cooperate with others so that such projects are able to be successful. I have also learnt that every minor action taken by a single being can have tremendous impact on the surroundings and the people in your life.
    • What stands out as the best or worst thing that happened to you in your service learning experience? What did you learn from these experiences?
The best thing was when i realised that the whole class was doing the service learning together and that we were making it a success. It helped me learn that so long as we try our best and work together as a team jobs we set out to do can be done. My worst experience was probably the tire from the continuous pciking of the bottles everyday.
    • Do you see yourself staying involved in the community during your college and adult years? Why or why not?
Yes I do. I hope to be able to stay active and continue to provide service to the society, environment and myself. I want to continue to help society and to serve people in need so as to ensure a continuous upgrading of social standards.

For 3E's service learning project, we decided to collect plastic bottles and throw them into the recycling bins stationed in the canteen rather than the normal dustbins situated around the school. Through this project, I have learnt the benefits of throwing the bottles into the recycling bins, something i did not know and do before this. I have realised the need to recycle and minimize waste and how I can do this through simple, basic everyday things i.e, throwing plastic bottles into recycling bins. I have become more concious and forward-thinking about things I do everyday.

Undoubtedly, the best thing that happened to me was when I was praised by a visitor of the school who saw what I was doing. He remarked that he was pleasantly surprised to see students of Victoria taking up such an initiative. He told that recycling was rare, or non-existent in most other schools he visited. This just highlighted to me the difficulty in getting people especially teenagers to be more eco-concious. This was emphasized when me and my classmates were teased and ridiculed by some fellow Victorians for doing what we did.

I will continue putting in the effort to reduce, reuse, recycle. Definitely, I will try to get my colleagues to do the same as I believe everyone has a part to play. I also plan to get involved in other community work as I believe that I can always give more back to the society.

    • How has the service-learning experience changed my thinking, attitudes, and actions towards others, myself and the community?

I feel that this service learning experience has been quite wonderful experience as I have learnt more about the environment and also how to take charge of what happens around me. I fell it is my duty to keep the environment clean.

    • What stands out as the best or worst thing that happened to you in your service learning experience? What did you learn from these experiences?

The best thing would undoubtedly be the sense of accomplishment after I had done my bit in cleaning the environment. I would always prefer to stay in a cleaner environment compared to a dirty one. However, the worst part of the service learning is that we have to take the initiative and get dirty. I have learnt a lot from this experience.

    • Do you see yourself staying involved in the community during your college and adult years? Why or why not?

Yes, I will surely be want to be involved in my community and continue maintaining my relationships with others. I feel that Singapore is our homeland and we should keep our homeland clean. If everybody takes the first step, I feel that we can live in a better environment.

The service learning for our class involved the recycling of used plastic bottles.
Whatever we do will affect the people around us, for every action will trigger
    a reaction.
This service learning has certainly heightened my experience in the field of doing something for the community. I have learnt that some people still lack the knowledge that recycling is important to protect the environment. We, as Singaporeans, have a part to play- saving the environment for future generations.

    3E Indra Kurniawan (17)

I learned through the service learning that we have to give back to the society. This is a form of voluntary work that my class has offer to give back to the society. We recycled plastic bottles as there is a high usage of plastic bottles but little recycling and we guessed its time to instill the message that we have to do our part to help recycle and give back to the society whenever we think and feel necessary. Before the Service Learning, I did not liked the idea of collecting plastic bottles and recycling them as i thought they were a waste of time and effort. However, after going through the whole process and experience, i appreciate the project as it has helped me change my thinking and viewpoint towards recycling. We have to do our part in the community as there are many global issues arising nowadays.

They were no good or bad thing that happened during the experience but as i said earlier i had gained many experiences and my viewpoint towards recycling had changed. I learned to be a more open-minded person and to give back to the community in any way that i could, doesnt matter if its a big thing or a small one as it is the thought that counts.

I see myself getting involved in this kind of things as i feel it is necessary as a well-groomed person to spare a thought for others, in this case, the world as by recycling we are actually reducing the amount of plastic production and thus reduces greenhouses gasses and help maintain global warming. This small little acts like recycling that we can easily do everyday can play a big part in changing the world. If everyone does their part in it, I'm sure everyone themselves will benefit from it. That being said, we should encourage and promote this voluntary acts as these acts can help develop one's characters and change their perception on a certain something.

    Reflections for CE Project

For my class service learning, we were tasked to collect plastic bottled drinks that students have finished in school and throw them into the recycling bin instead of the main rubbish bin. This service learning has certainly heightened my experience in the field of doing something for the community. I never thought we could help not only the community but the environment in this way. It teaches me that we can all play a part in serving the community and this will benefit everyone as a whole.

The best experience was when a group of students came up to us and passed us their empty plastic bottles. It showed that they too wanted to help us in playing a part to help the community. We did not have to go around asking for plastic bottles. They took the initiative to come up to us and hand the bottles. I have learnt that one person alone will not be able to fulfill his service towards the community without the help of others who also want to serve the community.

In the years to come, I will certainly do community service as I know my little effort can help someone else out there. For example, I would take time to go down to the Old Folks' home to help out,, to make sure the old folks feel loved and cared for. I believe service towards the community has to be reciprocated.
